English Oak Wall Clock
If you want chunky then this is the piece for you!, at 36mm thick it certainly has that rustic farmhouse appeal.
This exquisite piece of wood has unequaled figure, it’s a cross section of a giant branch cut at an angle just where it comes of the main trunk, it has amazing colours from the darker heart wood with the splits and cracks which have been filled with sunset gold resin, to the spalted sapp wood with dark and golden browns to an almost creamy colour in places, it’s totally unique in all its detail!!
English Oak is by far my most favourite wood, each piece is utterly unique with stunning figure and grain patterns.
With its wavy live edges and contrast between the sap wood and the heart wood it can’t get any more beautiful than this!
Whether your style is farmhouse or modern and minimalist this clock would be perfect for your home or office.
All my Oak clocks are made from wood which I have collected from tree fall from my local forest and surrounding area, I then slice it up on my bandsaw and stack it in my garden for at least two years to air dry. Slowly air drying oak retains a lot more of its colour than kiln drying does. Once I have dried it out I then have to bring it into workshop for a few weeks to acclimatise it to an indoor environment before any work can be done, as this helps eliminate wood movement and warping.
When the work has been done I apply two coats of lemon oil which does two things, helps preserve the wood and brings the grain out for us to marvel at, then I apply two coats of quality clear wood wax.
